• Chinese New Year is also called the Spring Festival, in ancient times, the Spring Festival used to refer to the beginning of spring in the solar terms, and it was also regarded as the beginning of the year. It is the most solemn traditional festival of the Chinese nation.

During the Spring Festival, the Han nationality and many ethnic minorities in China would hold various activities to celebrate. These activities mainly focus on offering sacrifices to gods and Buddhas, paying homage to ancestors, removing the old and fabricating the new, welcoming the jubilee and receiving blessings, and praying for a prosperous year. The activities are rich and colorful, with strong national characteristics.
On May 20, 2006, the “Spring Festival” folk custom was approved by the State Council to be included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage list.
